The role
Some people have a knack for bringing the right people together. They see opportunities, make connections and enjoy helping good ideas become something real.
We're looking for someone like that to join our board.
Microforest Collective helps local leaders create microforests that cool cities, restore nature and bring communities together.
We've established community projects, developed a growing schools program and built the foundations for something we want to take further across Australia.
Now we're looking for someone who can help us get there.
An opportunity to make things happen
You might see an opportunity to partner with a business, connect us with a philanthropic funder, introduce us to a school network or help establish our presence in another state.
We want someone who'll bring their own ideas, experience and relationships to the table, and enjoy helping turn those opportunities into something real.
Our board is collaborative, practical and entrepreneurial. We're still a relatively young organisation, so there's room to experiment, challenge assumptions and influence what happens next.
What it's like on our board
We're a small, committed team with directors across the ACT, NSW and South Australia. We meet online every two months, making it possible to contribute from anywhere in Australia.
"High-impact, with reasonable expectations, excellent communication and a high-quality team."
Purdie Bowden Founding Director, Microforest Collective Executive Manager, Australian Sustainable Finance Institute
It's a board where people share ideas, bring different perspectives and contribute beyond meetings. There's some uncertainty that comes with being a growing charity, and we're upfront about that. But there's also the satisfaction of working with capable people and seeing your contribution make a difference.
Who we're looking for
You may have built your career in business, government, philanthropy, corporate partnerships, education or the for-purpose sector.
What matters most is that you:
- Have strong professional relationships and know how to bring organisations together.
- Can think strategically, spot opportunities and help turn conversations into partnerships.
- Bring initiative, sound judgement and a willingness to contribute beyond board meetings.
- Care about creating greener, more connected communities.
You might already have board experience, or this could be your first directorship. We're more interested in what you can contribute than how many boards you've served on.
We're particularly interested in people with established networks in Victoria, South Australia or Queensland, where we want to build stronger partnerships and expand our work.
The practical details
This is a voluntary non-executive director position with a registered Australian charity.
Board meetings are held online every two months, with opportunities to contribute to strategic priorities and partnerships between meetings.
You'll share the governance responsibilities of the board while bringing your own experience, ideas and relationships to support the organisation's growth.
Interested?
If you're someone who likes making things happen and wants to use your experience to help create lasting environmental and community impact, we'd like to hear from you.
