Join us · Advisory board
National schools adviser
Help bring a microforest to every school in Australia.
- Commitment
- An online meeting each school term, plus advice and introductions in between. Around two to four hours a month.
- Term
- An initial two years, renewable if it's working well for you and for us.
- Location
- Australia-wide. Meetings are online.
- Pay
- Voluntary, like our board. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
The role
We believe every school should have a microforest. Now we're looking for a senior education leader to help us get there.
Our schools program is up and running. Students plant a microforest at their school, then learn from it all year, with lessons written to the curriculum their teachers already teach. We want to take it to every state and territory, and we'd love your guidance and your networks as we do.
Where the program is today
- Broulee, NSW. Our pilot at St Peter's Anglican College, backed by Wedgetail. Year 4 students designed their own forest and are planting more than 1,500 native plants this month. It's a finalist for the Junior Landcare Award at the 2026 NSW Landcare Awards.
- Denman Prospect, ACT. The ACT's first school-based microforest, at Evelyn Scott School, with Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise, Capital Estate Developments and our founding partner The Property Collective.
- Forest Lab. A full year of lessons for Years 3 and 4, mapped to the NSW syllabus and the Australian Curriculum, and an app students use to measure their own forest.
- Next. Expressions of interest open to every ACT school first, then NSW, then the rest of the country.
What you'd do
- Open doors. Introduce us to education departments, school systems, principals' networks and curriculum bodies, in your state and beyond.
- Guide the rollout. Help us decide where to go next, how to work with each system, and what a school needs before it says yes.
- Shape the program. Give strategic input on our approach, lessons and how we measure what students learn.
- Lend your voice. When it helps, speak for the program with the people who know you.
We do the work. You shape it with your expertise.
Who we're looking for
You might be a serving or former principal, an education department executive, a curriculum leader, or someone who has led a school system or a national education program.
What matters most is that you:
- Have a national or state-level profile in Australian education.
- Believe in outdoor and nature-based learning, and know how to make it work in a busy school year.
- Understand how schools and systems decide what to take on.
- Have the networks and credibility to open doors and shape how this rolls out.
The practical details
This is a voluntary role on our advisory board, alongside our board of directors, who also volunteer. Advisers give governance-level input without the legal obligations of a director.
We'd meet online each school term, and call on you for advice and introductions in between.
